Sarah McKenzie lives and works in Boulder, Colorado. Her work captures architecture in transition. Past series have focused on construction sites and abandoned structures. More recent canvases depict hotel rooms and parking garages–spaces that are specifically designed to accommodate the temporary; spaces that are fluid rather than fixed.
Join us on November 11 from 5:30-7:30pm for Happy Hour at Happy Dog (west side) to greet our next visiting artist Mandy Bernard. She is here on a self-styled residency and to show us how to print yards of fabric.

September 15th – WOOD LITHO DEMO/WORKSHOP+ beer&pizza meet&greet. at Zygote, 6-9:30pm.
Lithography on wood stems from a traditional Japanese process called Mokulito, a rare and seldom practiced mode of printmaking. In this demo artist Adrienne Lichliter will show her method that she has been experimenting with since 2013, allowing printmakers to create lithographs on cheap plywood using traditional lithographic materials. This process not only provides a cheaper, more accessible form of lithography but also requires no harmful solvents and chemicals. Furthermore wood litho has a truly unique aesthetic, allowing the artist to incorporate wood grain and carving with lithographic marks. Through the demo artists will learn all the quirks to the processing and printing so that they can go on to incorporate the method in their own work.
Adrienne Lichliter is a printmaking and paper artist working in Dallas, Texas at newly founded PICNIC Press and Studios. She received her MFA from Clemson University in 2014 and has a Bachelors of Arts in Art History and Art from Southern Methodist University. Her work has been shown throughout Texas and the United States as well as abroad in China, Japan and Egypt. She has been a resident artist at The Kala Art Institute in Berkeley CA, 100 West in Corsicana TX, and Artscape in Gibraltar Point, Canada. Her signature wood lithography process has been demonstrated at multiple printshops across the country, as she pioneers bringing the practice to North America.

WIP sessions occur in an open and productive forum facilitated by individuals who are active in the regional art scene. Each session consists of 8 participating artists and an audience of community members—essential for artists who desire feedback, professional dialogue and advice. WIP is back, due to popular request, because there is rarely a forum for such stimulation outside the university experience and because artists need critical discourse as artwork is progressing in the studio.
WIP targets emerging, mid-career and established artists working in any visual medium to engage in critical discourse with peers and others involved in contemporary art making. Twice in 2015, Zygote will invite professionals in the field to facilitate these sessions.
