In its 19th year, Zygote Press welcomes Clemens Reinecke and Rita Geissler to Cleveland, Ohio for the Ohio Arts Council’s longest running International Artist Residency Exchange. The Dresden Exchange Program will send Ohio artists, Michael Gill, Editor of the Collective Arts Network and Ellen Price, who is a professor at Miami University to work at the Graffikwerkstatt in Dresden for five weeks as part of this International exchange.
Clemens Reinecke and Rita Geissler’s work will be featured in an exhibition, Foreign Affairs 19, at Zygote Press. A reception will be held on Saturday, October 18th from 1-3pm, with an informal artist’s talk beginning at 2pm.
Rita Geissler is a member of the Saxon Art Association and has won several awards including the Best of Show at Leipzig Book Fair.

Behind the Platen is an exhibition celebrating the legacy of letterpress printing. The exhibit showcases work from artists and printers in our region, and demonstrates how the medium is being explored and utilized in our contemporary design culture.
Many Zygote Press artists — Elizabeth Emery, Michael Gill, Wendy Partridge, Corrie Slawson — were selected to be part of this exhibition curated by Miranda Hall & Andy Schwanbeck. Hall and Schwanbeck are designers and design educators and have their own letterpress studio, Big Press Little Press, in the Pittsburgh area.
The show opens September 10th, 2014 and runs through September 22nd, 2014 at LaRoche College Cantellops Art Gallery in Pittsburgh.
The opening-night lecture — by Bob Kelemen, an accomplished printer and letterpress educator — is on Wednesday, September 10th at 7:30 pm.
September 12 – October 4, 2014
Reception: September 12 – 6-8 pm
Artist Talk: September 24 – 6:30 pm
I was the kid who never left my scabs alone; I picked at them. I’m not sure if I was attracted to self-inflicted pain, but what I do know is that I was attracted to the breaking of patterns on my skin and the mark that would be left behind. I liked the permanency and mystery of scars. Then there are, what I call, the unmarked scars. Continue reading “2014 Artist-in-Residence | Donald Black, Jr. | My Scars Exposed”

Collector’s Affection showcases works from over a dozen local artists included in the private collection of John Farina and Adam Tully. Selected artists include Michelle Murphy, Mark Brabant, Hilary Gent, George Kocar, and many more. Works from the collection will be shown alongside recent works from each artist.
This exhibition is generously supported by John Corlett.
The Collectors: John Farina & Adam Tully have been collecting art together since they met nearly eight years ago. Adam actually became an instant collector when he met John, who had already begun his collecting of Cleveland art many years earlier. The Ink House, formerly a vacant home in North Collinwood, is being fully redesigned and rehabbed to become Zygote’s new satellite location to be used exclusively as our new contract printing studio for creating fine art editions.
The garage behind Ink House will also serve as Zygote’s home base for our mobile printmaking endeavors, as a community print garage, so we can keep on bringing printmaking to the streets of Cleveland beyond the two neighborhoods in which we reside.
Join Zygote Press for a preview party of the Ink House Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 6:00 to 8:30pm.
The night includes music by Oldboy as well as Todd Allen. Hard hat tours of Ink House will also be provided. Suggested $20 donations will receive a two-color screenprinted poster at the door.
